Jesus Appears to the Disciples - John 20:19-23

READ JOHN 20:19-23

Jesus, you are the source of peace. You are peace. Yet, like the disciples, I'm often afraid of what man might do to me. Often I fear and protect rather than trust – I'm sorry. Thank you for not leaving in disgust or giving up on me. Thank you for caring for me when I don't respond as I should. Jesus, I want to know your peace. I want your peace to penetrate my soul. I don't want to be self-protecting but rather faithfully trusting. Amen

Let me hear what God the Lord will speak, for he will speak peace to his people, to his saints; but let them not turn back to folly. Surely his salvation is near to those who fear him, that glory may dwell in our land. Steadfast love and faithfulness meet; righteousness and peace kiss each other. - Psalm 85:8–10

When Christ greeted his holy disciples with the words "peace be with you," by peace he meant himself, for Christ's presence always brings tranquility of soul. This is the grace Paul desired for believers when he wrote, "The peace of Christ which passes all understanding will guard your hearts and minds." The peace of Christ which passes all understanding is in fact the Spirit of Christ, who fills those who share in him with every blessing. – Cyril of Alexandria

There should be no turmoil when the great Sovereign is with us and in us. What is there to fear?
