Psalm 1 - A Wisdom Psalm

Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers; but his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law he meditates day and night. He is like a tree planted by streams of water that yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither. In all that he does, he prospers. The wicked are not so, but are like chaff that the wind drives away. Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous; for the Lord knows the way of the righteous, but the way of the wicked will perish. - Psalm 1 (ESV)

Jesus, you are the One who found pleasure in meditating on the law of the Lord and not in learning from the wicked or sitting with scoffers. You stood upright and were unswayed in your faithful obedience to your Father. You are my law-keeper. You are my righteousness. Forgive me for how I look to my righteousness for my own merit and identity – I’m sorry. Thank you for saving me and feeding me. I want to stand like a tree with deep roots that drink living water. I want to stand in your salvation and show others the beauty of the gospel. I want to stand in you alone. Please change my heart. Please don’t leave me to my own thinking. I want to meditate on you day and night. Amen
