Psalm 2 - A Kingship Psalm

Why do the nations rage and the peoples plot in vain? The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the Lord and against his Anointed, saying, “Let us burst their bonds apart and cast away their cords from us.” He who sits in the heavens laughs; the Lord holds them in derision. Then he will speak to them in his wrath, and terrify them in his fury, saying, “As for me, I have set my King on Zion, my holy hill.” I will tell of the decree: The Lord said to me, “You are my Son; today I have begotten you. Ask of me, and I will make the nations your heritage, and the ends of the earth your possession. You shall break them with a rod of iron and dash them in pieces like a potter’s vessel.” Now therefore, O kings, be wise; be warned, O rulers of the earth. Serve the Lord with fear, and rejoice with trembling. Kiss the Son, lest he be angry, and you perish in the way, for his wrath is quickly kindled. Blessed are all who take refuge in him.

Kind Father and King of the universe, you laugh at the evil intentions of fallen men who long to remove you from your throne. But all the evil authorities that have ever existed are completely powerless to alter anything because you are sovereign over everything. No wisdom, no understanding, no counsel can avail against you (Ps 21:30). You have established Jesus as King over the hearts of your children, and the nations are his heritage.

I do not always see things as they are. As the enemy rages, I often despair. I quickly falter and lose heart as the evil here seems overwhelming. I’m sorry for not trusting you. I’m sorry for being anxious instead of praying.

Thank you, Jesus, for defeating sin on the cross. Thank you for doing what I could not do. Thank you, God, for saving the needy and being the strong Protector of all who come to you in the name of Jesus.

Father, I know you are the King, and I want to live under your reign as I should. I want to see the world around me in light of your victory over my enemies. I want to trust you in everything. Please open my mind to your reign and make me a better ambassador of your goodness. Amen
