Not Alone

For I am here with you, Lord, as an alien, a temporary resident like all my ancestors – Psalm 39:12

The Christian’s hope is not here, in the things of this world. We will soon be gone. We are aliens here. But the good news is that there is a homeland that will not disappoint.

David’s position seems to be that even though we live here as outsiders, we have an anchor in the permanent. God is with him. God being with us should make a profound difference in everything – God is with us.

In Hebrews 13:5, the author gives the reason for a godward life  – God is with us and will never abandon his children.

Do you remember Matthew 1:23? Mary’s baby will be called Immanuel which means “God with us.” And Immanuel said he would be with his disciples to the end of the age.

In John 14:16 we read that Jesus promised that the Holy Spirit will be “with you forever” (Matt 28:20).

The triune God is with us and will be with us forever.

Father God, Jesus, Holy Spirit, you are with your children and will never leave them. I confess that this truth doesn’t always matter to me the way it should. My roots are not here. Thank you for guiding and guarding me even when I don’t feel it as I should. Please open my eyes to the instability of this world and the rock-solid hope you give me. Amen

Song: King of Kings

Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. - Isaiah 41:10
