Moving Mountains - Pt 3

…if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there’ and it will move. - Matthew 17:20

The Bible tells us that there is much more to reality than we know. Reality also includes angels, demons, sin, eternity, and the God of love who is sovereign over everything from the largest galaxie to every atom in existence. So, while we tend to fixate on our little corner of reality, true reality is bigger than we can imagine. It’s all about God and God’s purposes.

I say this to ask the question, is it possible that when Jesus talked to his disciples about moving a mountain, he was giving them all they could handle but illuding to moving something even bigger than Mt Everest? Maybe he was using “mountain” to represent the biggest and most immovable object – the self.

After this passage in Matthew, Jesus said something remarkable, “It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God… With man this is impossible but with God all things are possible. (Matt 19:23-26)”

While the human heart, on its own, is an immovable object, the gospel can change that. As the good news of Jesus’ victory over sin is delivered in faith, the mountain of self gives way to the love of God. All who believe are the recipients of a massive miracle bigger than moving a mountain.

Jesus, you are a mountain-moving savior. I am weak but you are strong. Thank you for doing what only you can do. Thank you for saving me from my own hard and immovable heart. Please make me see your glory. Amen

Song: God Who Moves the Mountains

Ah, Lord God! It is you who have made the heavens and the earth by your great power and by your outstretched arm! Nothing is too hard for you. - Jeremiah 32:17
