One Birth, Many Reborn

…that he might be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters. - Romans 8:29

My wife has lots of hostas. Because she has a problem with empty spaces, hostas are the perfect solution. If you plant that first one, it won’t be long until there’s more – and more. But without that first one, there won’t be more.

God also has a problem with empty space. He had no intention of leaving this world void of worshipers. And, how do you create millions of new lives? You start with One that leads the way. This is what happened at Christmas. Jesus was born so that millions could be reborn.

We became sinless in God's eyes when Jesus took our place on the cross. When God looks at us, he sees the DNA of Jesus - sinless. Our sin is gone (as far as the east is from the west – Ps 103:12). This is why the Bible often calls Jesus our brother.

Just as you had nothing to do with your first birth, you have nothing to contribute to your rebirth. You are reborn because Jesus loves you. He did the work.

Have you ever thought of yourself as a hosta? Even the simplest things should cause us to see the glory of God.

Jesus, in your coming you created a family full of joy. I’m sorry for not living this out as I should. Thank you for loving me anyway. Please cause me to be amazed at your goodness.

Song: Come Thou Fount

Both the one who makes people holy and those who are made holy are of the same family. So Jesus is not ashamed to call them brothers and sisters. - Hebrews 2:11
