Our Right Hand is the Key - Psalm 16

Because [the Lord] is at my right hand, I shall not be shaken. - Psalm 16:8

The Christian should move through life with unshakable hope, confidence, and purpose. Why? Because the active God of power and purpose is our strength.

When the Bible speaks of “the right hand,” it usually means a position of honor, authority, and power. For example, in Acts 5:31, we read that God has exalted Jesus to his right hand as Leader and Savior to give repentance to Israel and forgiveness of sins.

Knowing that God was at David’s right hand kept him on task. Knowing that God was Jesus’ right hand kept him unshakable as he did the unthinkable for us. For the believer, the great Sovereign moves before us and will defeat our enemies and bring us home. Knowing this should radically change our lives.

We are not meant to fight life’s battle naked and alone. Defeat is sure when we trust in ourselves. Because of Jesus, the battle is his, and victory was secured two thousand years ago.

Jesus, you are not only seated at the right hand of the Father, you are my strength and goodness as well. I often act like a defeated victim when you reign over my life – I’m sorry. Thank you for your faithfulness when I’m not faithful. Please reorient my reality. I want to trust you. Amen

Song: Give Me Jesus

Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. - Isaiah 41:10
