Learning From God

I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go. - Psalm 32:8

Wouldn’t it be great to actually have God teaching us? This verse is not the only one like this:

If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him. - James 1:5

But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things  - John 14:26 (also see 1 John 2:27)

When I was younger, I really wanted God to speak to me and direct me. But I wasn’t open to what God was saying because I wanted God to adapt to my agenda and priorities. I couldn’t hear the beauty of his straightforward counsel because I was the focus and not God’s glory and his mission.

If we desire God’s teaching, our Bibles need to be open and we need to be praying. Everything flows from the infinite depths of the gospel and we are sinners saved by grace and drafted into His plan. And, good news; His plan and our happiness are in harmony.

We generally see life from the core of who we are, right? In Christ, you are a new person who should be seeing life from a new, redeemed core. He will indeed teach you.

Wise Father, your teaching is all I need but I often doubt and want the world’s wisdom – I’m sorry. Thank you for being so patient with me. Please help me. Change my heart. I want you as the core. Amen

Song: Guide Me Now O Great Jehovah

Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. - Matthew 11:29
