Rivers of Living Water - John 7:37-52

Jesus, only you can quench the soul’s thirst. And only you, with your words of life, can stop man’s evil intentions. Only you dictate what has happened, what is happening, and what will happen. And I confess; I don’t feel as thirsty as I should. What thirst I have often seems satisfied with earthly water. But I am dehydrated – I thirst. Please, Jesus, I want more of you. I want you to quench my thirst. Please do what you must to open my soul to the water I need most. Amen

O God, you are my God; earnestly I seek you; my soul thirsts for you; my flesh faints for you, as in a dry and weary land where there is no water. - Psalm 63:1

Unless you had discovered how empty you were, you would not have believed in Christ. Before saying “rivers of living water will flow from his belly,” he first said, “If anyone is thirsty, let him come and drink.” The reason you will have a river of living water is that you drink. You do not drink if you are not thirsty. – Augustine

It is incredible; not only are we the adopted children of God, but Jesus’ Spirit is the gift he gives to those he adopts.
