Seeing the Unseeable - Psalm 11

The upright shall behold the Lord’s face. (see Ps 11:7)

Have you ever thought about what it would be like to see God’s face? When the Bible speaks of this, it’s usually connected to his children’s ultimate rest and joyful understanding. It’s finally and intimately being with the One who loves us completely.

Jesus talked about this: “Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God (Matt 5:8).” And the Apostle Paul said, “For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face. (1 Cor 13:12).” What a day that will be!

But the Bible is equally clear that God is Spirit (John 4:24; Col 1:15; 1 Tim 1:17) and can’t be seen. So, what’s the deal here? We can think of this in two ways: seeing and understanding with spiritual eyes, and seeing with physical eyes. Someday we will see Jesus with our real and new eyes. He did not take on the human form only to get rid of it after his ascension. His resurrected body was a real body, and we will be with him physically forever. When God took on human form, it was permanent. He became physical so he could die for us and live with us.

Jesus, you are God with us. You left glory to come here so we could be together forever. I don’t appreciate this as I should – I’m sorry. Thank you for doing what you did even though I don’t grasp it the way I should. Please open my soul to the beauty of your coming and all it means. Amen

Song: Open the Eyes of My Heart

And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also. - John 14:3
