Struggling With an Eternal Perspective - Pt 1
Take hold of the eternal life to which you were called and about which you made the good confession in the presence of many witnesses. - 1 Timothy 6:12
One difficulty for those who wish to see life with Christ correctly is adopting an eternal way of thinking. While the world around us seems to care only about this life and self-gratification now, true reality and experience is not confined to the few decades we’re here.
Embracing God’s perspective is difficult because it goes against most of what we are programmed to think. Yet changing our vision is critical to growing as a disciple.
Jesus said, “Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life (Jn 3:36).” Eternal life should be our reality now, not just later. I think this way of thinking is really foreign to us. We tend to split our existence into two categories that only connect slightly – life here now, and life after death. This is not how it should be because this is not how it is.
So, how does this work? How can I embrace eternal life now? Before the cross, as Jesus was praying for those who would believe, he said, “This is eternal life, that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent. - John 17:3
The foundation of living in eternity now is close fellowship with Jesus.
Jesus, you are the one who saves completely. I’m sorry that I feel so at home in this world. Thank you for working in spite of me and moving me from this failing kingdom into one with no end. Please cause me to see it.
